It is never too early to start looking, because you will want to interview several daycare providers and call references. Just be upfront with the potential provider for when you are looking to start. I (along with my friends that are providers) require a deposit to hold a spot (usually 1 to 2 weeks pay), upfront. I also have a couple of paid playdates before I start care, especially if the child has never been in care before. First time is usually with Mom for two hours(this way Mom sees how I interact with her child and other children), next time is half a day without Mom, then a couple of full days without Mom. This way it is easier on Mom and baby. I would suggest that when you find a provider you like, start your child going two days a week a month before you go back to work. That way it is easier to transition them into full days. Most providers should be willing to do this if you are going to commit to a full time spot. Good luck! |
