Choosing an old norse name
I was thinking of taking on an old norse name. I came up with the personal name of Úlfsteinn and the patrynom of Hloðvarrson. I'll break down the reasoning behind these choices. Úlfsteinn means "wolf-stone". I chose this as my personal name because my given name is Peter, which means rock, and I've always felt at one with the wolf. now Hloðvarrson is a little tricky. Hloð means "fame" and varr means "warrior". I combined those to make "famous warrior", which is meaning of Luis, my fathers given name. I added "son" on the end of it to make patronomic. "Son of the Famous Warrior". so now my questions. is Hloðvarrson a correct patronom? next, how would I write both names in the elder fuþark? I intend to burn this name in to a staff I'm making. |

Whichever one seems most important to you at the present moment is the one you should choose. Úlfsteinn seems to be the better choice for obvious reasons. |
