Making runes out of bone
I'm in the process of making Rune sets for the men in my wedding party, and there is one of them who's nature demands a set of bone...however, I've had no luck in finding bones to acquire (buy, only if necessary) for this purchase. Has anyone else made a set out of bone? If so, where did you get the materials? |

Hi. I've been creating Runes out of a variety of woods now, Wood-Burning and Stain & Oiling w/ Ochre Powder mixed into Linseed Oil. As I previously purchased a Nice ! feeling (Smooooth ! Feel) set of Camel Bone Runes, I've been thinking about Creating Bone Runes (also.) My 1st thought is : Using (Beef) "Spare Ribs", cutting them to Size w/ a Hack Saw, and either Engraving w/ an Exacto Knife or Wood Carving tools. Haven't done it yet, tho. Then, I would color the Engraved Lines w/ Oil Paint, and allow Time for the Oil Paint to dry. Lastly, Seal over all w/ Lacquer. Good Luck ! and may your Marriage be Blest ! "Daniela".

My personal feeling is that runes should not be made of bone. When making from wood I always ask and leave a silver coin at the base of a tree for the wood limb I take. If you must have a set in bone, perhaps an animals antlers which have been discarded would be acceptable as they would have no bad energy from death. On a side note I also don't lacquer my runes for this places a barrier between me and my runes. As for what to use to colour the rune I have used my blood (personal use runes only), red ochre mixed with egg yellow or ink made from berries from the poke weed plant. |

I don't know about where you live, but where I live, hunting is a favorite way feeding the family for many folks of Montana. As such, if you tried to track down a hunter in your area, you could probably find some deer or elk bones fairly easily. |
