Why do the runes work?
I am a new student in the study of the runes and very happy to be. Before I came across the runes I had studied many diffrent forms of magick and pagan realigion Wiccan to Voodoun but none seemed work for me but then i found a little book Called a practicle Guid to runes (sorry I can't remember the author) and i was floored by how these seeminly chicken scarch symbols worked. I mean I had tried the wiccan rituals they bored me to tears the Voodoun was a little to outthere for my taste. but here little easy made symbols held so much power they were the first magick i did that made me beleive that maybe there was something to all this new age stuuf then chanting nonsense to a candle. Well i am wondering if any one knows why The runes work when nothing did before. Why does wirting down a runescrtpt work better for me then an entire ritual invocation. |

Perhaps Odin is asking you to seek him out. |

If it helps at all, for me the runes work better than anything else because they're earthy - the symbols relate directly to things in the natural world and related to the human condition. For me, I can appreciate and understand them with little knowledge of the gods they relate to, because as such basic, abstract symbols, they're far more open to adaptation through the ages, across cultures, and by individuals. |

Hi Dear, I read cards, tarot and runes... and I still don't have any physical explanation why they work. I know they do, but I think of it as algebra.. it just is (a+b=c)... I may not understand it all but it works so I accept it and move on. If the algebra anecdote doesn't work for ya...the closest answer I could find from someone way smarter than me... was an theory of Carl Jung's I think it's called "Synchronicity" a cause and effect idea... it's the closest one that seemed to make sense .... I hope this helps a bit.. |

Nothing wrong with candels and chanting ! Check out a book called Galderbok goes into a lot of detail trance states traveling the ash tree etc very informative, sleep with them under your pillow .you will learn much more from the runes themselves if you ask them for guidance.Had to take mine out from under my pillow as the dreams got to much. Had too many night time visitors , they will be going back under there soon when i have dealt with the stuff they brought out ! it`s all just energy at the end as are thoughts everything we think and do is logged and we get judged on it all in the end of this life the runes are a focus point something to concentrate on to focus your mind on the required outcome.mind over matter .Cj jung i found to be a bit hard going so i got my wife to read his work and translate it for me ! |

I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but my runes are SO MEAN to me! I'm not complaining, I just think it's funny. They have no tolerance for any silliness whatsoever. When it comes to rune sets I've made for other people, my clients/friends always say how nice (yet accurate) they are, but the set I made for myself pulls NO punches. Most of the readings consist of "get your crap together, jack." or "that is the stupidest question I've ever heard." or "what the hell do YOU think?" I'm obviously asking the wrong questions! Oh yeah, and they don't like yes/no questions at all. I've stopped bothering. I'm essentially just insulting my own intelligence. Basically, my runes reflect my personality to a tea. Yes, I purified them, then blessed them with my blood, so I know I didn't screw up anywhere. They just don't mess around. I have a feeling that this is sometimes what happens when you make your own set, because my friend made his as well, and he also gets really blunt and wild readings. (Maybe Oswald can speak to his own experience?) |

Nope, never have had any "meanness" from my runes. Sure, I get home truths that are sometimes unpalatable, but after digging into my honesty box I have invariably found the responses accurate enough - and helpful, which is the main thing. I'm afraid I do not discuss my empowerment methods, but I can tell you they involve a lot more than purification and blessing but do not involve the use of blood - my own or from any other source. The rite could be where any differences in performance arise. |

I was just going by your first post where you said your runes were 'SO MEAN'. Now that you explain, well I guess that's exactly what you would hope for and expect from a decent set of runes. |

From the way I look at it, the runes work like an oracle, in that they are not telling you anything your spiritual self doesn't already know. The way you interpret them and how they apply to you at any given time are what matters here. |
