future options!

im not sure what is going wrong either- maybe there is confidence issues, maybe cos we dont train properly etc! but i mean there are 3 games we have lost now(rovers, helmdon, duke) who we have beat in the past and should be beating this year 2.

A problem could be we play the same 4-4-2 every week with the same players and its clearly not working that great -so why not change. i personally feel a 5-4-1 or 4-5-1 will suit both our style of play better and match the strength of our squad( meaning we have alot of midfielders and defenders and only 2 strikers)

i know ppl say these are defensive formations but they dont have to be if the wide man( fullbacks/wingers) attack. i mean in the next few weeks we have potentially 4 new players : greg, honer, charles and also i fink junior has been approached?? so every1 is gona have to start performing to keep places

maybe we should experiment more such as:

try a new striker: charles, danno, newey, wheeler,me, junior all of which are fast and mite work well off a target man of jones/m.p??

try danno in defense left wing back or part of 3 in centre with newey/watts/honer/greg/rick/golder as part of 5 wit me/hodge/jason/loz the other back - we now have a lot of defenders.

try jones in centre mid with raj and stu as a 3 with 2 wingers( wheeler/hodge/mike/charles) to get forward to help the lone striker

give jason/loz more of chance rather than just bring them on with 20 mins left when we lately always have been losing.

I mean these are just some options we could look at now we have more players than the bare 11??

Re: future options!

Hi everyone

I agree with the points brought up by the man who writes up those 'detailed' match reports on the website. We do need to stop shouting at each other every time something goes wrong. It makes the situation 100 times worse. If peoples confidence is low and they know that if they make a mistake on the ball then they are gonna get slated then they are gonna panic on the ball. mayb some words of encouragement mite work! 'encourage not discourage'!

This mayb the reason why every time we get the ball we want to get rid off it a.s.a.p and boot it 4ward which was exactly what happened in the first half of the game on sunday. This means the midfield are getting disconnected from the strikers/defenders because they are constantly running backwards and forwards with the ball going over their heads. the tempo doesnt ave 2 b go go go all the time. we dnt always ave to pass 4wards or take on the man. Sometimes a bit of composure (instilled with confidence) is whats needed. I had a shot at the weekend and i jst wanted to get it on target cos i knew if i blazed it i would get ripped. i dnt know if this is how every1 feels. If we pass it around a bit more than we can slowly bring the full backs in etc. We know we can do it as we do in trainin.

I know i'm not exactly the best exponent of this but this is how i think we should try to play. And i think constructive criticism of peoples performances would b gd. I'd love people to tell me where i can improve (obviously not during the game). i'd welcome some1 telling me where i need to improve my game. You can tell people how to improve without sounding critical. i think were all big enough to take in some areas for improvement and not take it personally cos lets face it none of us are maradona and we can all improve our game.

I do agree with Lee that mayb experimenting with systems and players is also a consideration, but confidence is massive and if every1 thinks there gonna get ********* for a miss placed pass or for percievadly not tryin then it will jst b constant panic stations and hoof hoof hoof.

remember these are jst my opinions and i know im at uni most of the time but felt like my ideas may help. half the reason most of us play is cos its wiv our m8s so why do we always shout at each other. feel free to tear my theory to shreds!lol.

Re: future options!

As I put my thoughts in the match report, I won't write much more here on the subject of the team as a whole, but would like to say what I personally would like to do with me.

If we are going to try to have a speedy striker (from the list Lee mentioned), which is something we definitely need, and a "target man", then I would like to put myself forward for that position. I don't feel that at the moment the position I currently play is beneficial to the team or allowing me to play at my best. It has been said that the teams we are playing against have too much time in midfield and I would have to hold my hands up and say that I am responible for that. I think the team needs someone who is more of a ball winner in there, somebody who can tackle, win the ball and can cover the grass quicker. This I feel will be more beneficial to the team as although I try, tackling, marking and defensive attributes are not my strong points. Therefore, if somebody would like to nominate themselves for the centre midfield position then please do so, I am happy to wait for my chance to be the "target man" in a 4-4-2 or play off the striker in a 5 man midfield where it will enable me to play to my strengths.

This I feel will be better for the team, and from a purely egotistical viewpoint, better for me. I might be completely wrong, I might completely mess it up. But I'd like to have a go.

Re: future options!

Yeah think confidence is one thing but the system we are playing is not right either.
We have stepped up into a much harder league and we need to adapt. The system may have been good last season but the league is a hell of a lot harder this year. It never was going to be a walk in the park!

I think having two similar stikers up front who are not complimenting each other, is not working. Both are not quick but have ability to hold the ball up and win headers. This leaving an option for a much quicker player to play along side Jones/M.P. I'd like to see Lee/Loz Rogers/Charles/Wheeler/Danno/Newey played there more regularly all of whom have pace and are not afraid to strike a ball.

The defence which is normally solid needs to continue on from last season, as this is probably our strongest asset. However playing Finnley at left back, in my opinion, does not work and he should be put on the right side where he looks more comfortable.

Wingers are not really an issue in the midfield. Danno makes good runs down the left side. So did Mike on Sunday against the Duke. However from my point of view regards to playing in the center, i never seem to receive the ball at my feet that often. It's always going over my head or i'm running around trying to win it back and make tackles, which for me, is not a problem, but maybe an extra man in the middle will help the center mids to distribute better? Maybe Hodge who works hard all game or Wattsy who is strong, dropping Honer in center back with Newey? I also think that John George, the artist formerly known as Dan Patience is missed in the center. He played well in that game against the youth team, a small reminder of what he used to do.

Either way our game needs a fresh look and spicing up a little. We can still pull ourselves together, its still early days! We are going in against teams like Red Lion looking as though we have lost the game before its even begun. No hunger for a win = no win.

Lets do this thing people!

Re: future options!

i agree withs the points made! confidence is essential i know i lack confidence as i feel if i dont score in within the first half of a game i will be dropped within 60 mins to be honest with me and jones up top its not working im not attacking anyone personally but there are problems there i feel he does play nearly the same game as me but i feel im the better of the two and he doesnt seem to want to make a partnership as he could feed me in a lot and doesnt so i think greed comes in a bit there and only playing for yourself not the team i think there are a couple of people with that attitude sometimes and this doesnt help my confidence especially when no one has confidence in me so they dont play me in when they could i generally would welcome a speedy partner up top i just hope they are willing to make a partnership and not be too greedy i think the problem with me is people dont expect me to do that well therefor i dont play as well these are problems we need to look at and i only can hope people start to have more faith in the players we have as we do have the ability we made a cup final vs the swan and came second in the league, sure this league is harder but we should be better and be able to rely on each other, in all i think we are getting better at this but we need to learn to work together more as a team and give confidence throughout and we will achieve thats my opinion generally so feel free to comment
