Banbury Trade and Labour FC Team Representative

Shambles. Disgraceful. Let Down once again!
Good luck this year team, on which will undoubtably be our hardest season yet! That is if we get to see the season out. Once again broken promises from the management have rocked the team in pre-season. Apparently three friendlies were arranged before the season began, to ensure we are match fit, try out different tactics and to look at the players to see if there have been improvements. But, after turning up for the first friendly game in Brackley to find us on a field with not even a goal post in sight, we should have known not to have bothered. Yet the manager reamained adamant that the friendlies had been arranged and were going ahead. Lies, not one game went ahead. We've now had a take over thanks to the management which now sees us as not the familiar Banbury Gold, but the Banbury Trade & Labour Football Club. This was mainly a decision made by the manager after he consulted the team. The team gladly accepted the takeover bid on the conditions of a personal pitch owned by Trade and Labour Club, 2 Brand new football kits as we would be unable to play in the familiar Gold colours, food before and after games at the pub and a very large percentage slashed off of match fees and signing on fees. Which really sounded like a bloody good offer. Reality soon struck us on Sunday 2nd September 2007, after one training visit from the manager all summer, and being told to meet at the Labour Club at 9:30am before every game. The team met in the car park to realise the club was shut and the only staff there was cleaners, we now couldn't leave the car park as the gate locks down behind each vehicle until a unique coin is entered into the machine. More bad news, the manager was nowhere to be seen or heard which is a mirracle for him. Finally the manager appears 10-20mins late much to the teams pleasure. So now its time to get to the game and forget about this slight hiccup. The game against the Rovers in Wardington looked extremely good especially when the Labour Club went 0-1 up! Only for the Rovers to scramble home a lucky equaliser. Then the manager thought it would be good to start tweaking the team around, something you would most probably do in TRAINING or mayber even PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES! Half time, many interesting comments made by the manager that i think all were ignored by the team because we know the routine now and its the same **** from him. Second half kicks off within 10-15mins another goal is scored by Rovers making it 2-1. That's it the manager has a brain wave lets take off out best player in the game and play people out of position and maybe we can score. hhmmmmm No, Rovers score again 3-1. All over now and ow the team is arguing with each other, people are making needless fouls and getting a booking. Lets basically go into suicide mode to finish the game. Full time. On a high note Rovers have been in the top league for some time and were at home, but we felt we could have done so much more with a bit more pre-season work when we all wanted it to happen in the summer. Then we find out Rovers were missing two of their best players which makes us feel lucky it was 3-1. On another lucky note, we have 1 home game this month (Septemeber), you may think this isn't lucky. Well it is when your management hasn't even sorted out the pitch yet. The promised private pitch is nowhere to be seen so we most likely will return to Drayton "Field of Dreams". Although Drayton School has absolutely no requests from the management, asking and offering to pay for the pitch. Hopefully the pitch problem will be sorted by the time we have our first home game otherwise we will have to play on the Labour Club's car park. I want to take this oppurtunity to speak out to the manager. Do you want this job? We would rather have no manager and manage ourselves, rather than someone who only wants it when they can be arsed. If you don't want it just say because you are losing so much respect from the team and it could end up splitting the team apart. As been as this is your last season in charge what would you rather finish on, a High or a Low? If you put some effort in god knows what we could achieve, we are a very capable team that you are holding back. We will get back on track i am sure about it, but will it be this year? With the same good bunch of lads? With this manager? In this league? Or in another lifetime? Lets here some replies from the team, so we can all have our say that way the manager can here it from everyone, rather than a minority of the team. Thanks for reading and good luck Lads we're going to need it! |

In a bit of a rush now so can't really post an in depth reply, but just thought I would make one quick note. I never heard of us getting a "private pitch"! Was that actually said? However about the pitch, I have today (7th September) given Mark another set of forms for the use of the 'Field of Dreams' at Drayton (North Oxon Academy). Therefore, once he has sorted these out we should be ok to go! So that may be one less thing to worry about. |

Although i do agree with some of the points made, i can only assume these comments were made by someone who isn't gettin in the team. and why does no-one ever put there names to these comments, if you've got a problem, say so, in person! you might not get the answers you want, but you might earn a bit of respect instead. |

I disagree - These comments are not necessarily made by someone who's not getting in the team, as their views are a relfecton on how most of the team members are feeling at the moment, which is disapointing as we are supposed to be a TEAM. I do agree with the let down of lack of pre-season and yet again we are spending the start of another season getting back to match fitness and loosing matches which should have been won. Surley those who turn upto training every week should get a fair crack in a game?? and those who don't turn up need to make more of an effort and not be so suprised if they get dropped. Deal with it. Only you can change that by turning up so stop moaning! It is vital the manager turns up to training and every sunday for the games otherwise we have no guidance!! If it wasn't for Rogers we wouldn't even have a pitch at drayton this year and where are the nets?? Cone head still has them doesn't he? Thought Mark was supposed to be getting those back to? I was also informed that we may be getting fined as someone didn't phone the results in to the league after the Rovers game. The organisation is quite frankily terrible and needs to be sorted out! |

This message is very weird in that it makes some very good points and speaks some crap, there is also the fact that no-one is admitting to it?? Things I agree with Pre-season poor = no friendlies, not sorting out the pitch is suicidal and lucky matt is in with Drayton or we would be screwed. Mark should have been at more trainings but then again I don’t know if he was working?? Or just didn’t know they were on?? Things I don’t Surely the takeover is a good thing, it gives us money and for the first time proper sponsorship that will help our long time future, I don’t think they ever promised a private pitch, plus what is wrong with Drayton. Also we cant expect new kits yet as we have to show we will use the club and give them money back through drinks. I don’t think people were played out of position?? Why will we not see the season out- surely this is the strongest squad we have ever had?? And we actually have lots of players for once. Admittedly this will be our hardest season because every year we have been playing better opposition - I mean can you remember the first year most teams were shocking whereas now ever week will be a battle |

Just thought i would have my say, even though im a new member of the team! Basicly i think that we do have a good squad/team and therefore should be seriously competing in the league and cups. With regard to the points raised: is there any thing actually wrong with our present kit.NO Is 'the field of dreams' not a good enough pitch for us to use. NO Fair enough we should have had some proper freindlys but whats done is done and now wev just gota get on with it and win some football games. |

i am only new so can not comment to much and please put me in my place if what i say is wrong or i am out of line but from the sound of the take over from what every one is saying it is a good idea as gives us money makes things easier for the team with money a new kit is always nice as well. pre season i was surprised the manager was not there a couple of times. and did feel a bit disappointed with the friendly situation. i do think that every one does need to make an attempt to make training i know every one can not commit every week. but some people have only shown up once or twice. from what i have seen lads you are a good team and confidence seems to be a big issue u went 2-1 down heads went down and almost gave up. where as i know they were and under 16 teams but we went 2-0 up and well look at the 3rd goal confidence was flowing through every one. even i felt a bit confident and i was nervous as hell at the start of the game and for most of it. i have said to Rodgers i will try and arrange a friendly with a Vodafone 11 as we have some great players there in the next couple weeks if every one is up for it i just need to check see if Drayton will allow us to play there at night on a wends or thurs will all i will say if come on trades we can do well this year

Like everyone else, I agree and disagree with certain bits of that post. I would also just like to say that it wasn't me who made those comments. |
