Delaware State Beaches, along with other beach patrols, have used towers for many years. The beach towers are built to withstand punishment from the weather. In the case of a severe storm (ie. hurricanes, severely high seas), arrangements can be made to have the tower removed from the beach or relocated to an area where it will be less susceptible to damage. Towers prove to be an important tool to scan more water compared to a common lifeguard chair and serve as a headquarters as well as storage. The beach has been a major part of Tim Ferry's life since he was a child; he also has approximately 30 years of beach patrol under his belt, so it can be expected that he understands what weather can do to beach structures. |
