Is it me or on some canals is it getting more difficult to find visitor moorings near places that you may well want to stop and visit. It seems that increasingly space near towns and villages is being given over to long term permit moorings.
Some places do a wonderful job. For example Nantwich - plenty of good moorings near the town - it positively asks you to stop. Contrast this with New Mills - for years there was casual visitor mooring just past the marina. Now it is all permit mooring - so if you want to visit the town (some might say why would you want to!!), you can only moor much further along the canal or moor on the permit moorings illegally.
