.asx files and URLs

They are not on the menu for the VCD player. I've been trying to figure out how to play a link to an .asx file and the file type isn't listed for the player.

(I went to the Digital Digest forums to find a codec for it, and managed to find a completely useless program that creates a playlist from the URL. My bad entirely. )

Any pointers you could give me about making it work with links to .asx files/URLs?

Otherwise, the program is working perfectly. Thank you!

Re: .asx files and URLs

An ASX file is not a media file and it does not have a codec.

It is a text file containing a playlist. The playlist can contain just about any media files using all sorts of codecs.

Your ability to play ASX depends on the codec used by the individual files in the playlist. Try to open the ASX file in Notepad and then type the media link in Windows Media Player. Subhash VCDPlayer can only play local files on your PC.

Bummer!

I was hoping to grab some screen shots from an online trailer. Any magical advice?

Capturing still images from streaming media

You can capture images from Media Player the same way you do in Subhash VCDPlayer, because the latter uses the former.

Select the Start menu, type mplayer2 in the Run dialog box and press Enter.

Windows Media Player v6.4 will open. Select Options from the View menu. Now, reduce hardware acceleration from Full to None. Click OK to close the dialog box. Now, open the ASX file in Media Player and press the Alt+Printscreen key combination. Open MS Paint and do a paste operation. Crop the still image and save it in a file.
