DDR memory matching with Athlon 64 3000+
I read with interest the explanation of FSB and I think I am beginning to understand why I have had so much trouble trying to find out my new computer's FSB speed(my CPU does not have an FSB). I am still a long way from understanding what RAM will work (well) in my new PC (Crucial lists neither the PC nor the motherboard, MSI, its maker, does not even list the mobo!). When I add 512MB of PC2700 to 512MB of PC3200 the computer recognises only 2x256MB. The PC3200 works normally and although I have been having memory corruption problems with the PC2700, I think this was due to an old faulty mobo as the Windows memory diagnostic tests are all OK with the two sticks in the new PC. Can anyone shed any light on this? |

Hi John, I forgot to look at the forum in the last few days. You can't mix RAM pieces that have different speeds. All the RAM modules on the motherboard should have the same speed. Otherwise, your computer may behave in an unpredictable manner. You can either have PC2700 or PC3200 on your motherboard. Never together. Download CPU ID program from H-Oda.com and check whatever information you need from the motherboard and PC components. If you need any more information, feel free to ask. |
